Academic Support Center

Welcome to HCCC's Academic Support Center! Our mission is to empower each student to reach his or her highest academic potential through personalized support and development of individual study and learning skills.

Open to all registered HCCC students, the Center coordinates with all academic divisions to provide a wide spectrum of support services. We are presently located on the first floor of the Library Building. The Center is certified by the College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA) and is staffed by trained professional and peer tutors. Best of all, Academic Support Center services are totally free of charge!

Students may request one hour of one-on-one tutoring per course per week and may use walk-in hours without limit. Tutors work at regularly scheduled days and times; appointments for specific courses are suggested to ensure both student and tutor availability. Online support is also offered though E-Tutoring services.

Assistance is readily available for the basic courses of English, math, humanities, science and social science. Support for many program-specific courses is offered based on the availability of qualified tutors. Our staff also offers coaching and instruction on learning strategies such as note-taking, test-taking and time management.

Computers are available for word processing, research, communication with faculty and practice in such areas as grammar, mathematics, and reading. The Center includes a 10-station computer lab which is available for open or group use whenever classes are not in session. Assistive technologies including text-to-speech, screen and web-readers, and scanners are available to students in the lab; trained staff members are available to coach students in learning how to make best use of these tools.

Academic and non-academic assistance is provided to students with disabilities (permanent and temporary) through Services for Students with Disabilities or by contacting Coordinator
Leslie Cornish at 315-866-0300 x 8331.
