Welcome to HCCC!
Advice to Help Your Students Succeed Once They've Arrived!
Dear Parents and Family Members:
Welcome to the HCCC community! Whether you are a parent or guardian of a high school student exploring colleges or already part of the HCCC community with your current HCCC student, we hope you'll find the information on this page helpful.
Surely this is an exciting time for you and your family, but at the same time, it can be overwhelming to sift through all of the College brochures, letters, CD's, DVD's, e-mails, and other forms of communication that undoubtedly are filling up your mail boxes. We realize you have many questions and concerns about the choices your college student faces, and we hope the information provided here will help answer some of those important questions.
Be assured that our students come first at Herkimer County Community College, and our goal is to make the transition from high school to college a smooth one for all. However, there are some important things that parents can do to help. First and foremost, please encourage your son or daughter to join a student club, athletic team or intramurals. Basically, encourage them to "get involved," and to participate in the activities and events that happen on campus each and every week. This is a great opportunity for them to make friends with students who have the same interests, meet teachers, find mentors, and just feel "connected." Additionally, please be sure your student becomes informed and takes advantage of the many resources offered at HCCC--free tutoring, fitness center, computer labs, career planning services, the library, etc.
Your support of your son or daughter throughout their college years will be very important. If you have questions or need assistance during this exciting time, please do not hesitate to contact us. For your convenience, listed below are the phone numbers and email addresses for departments that you may want to contact in the weeks and months ahead.
You may also want to check out the website for the College Parents of America website at www.collegeparents.org. This is an excellent resource with a wide variety of information and links related to academic, financial and career planning, campus life and other college-related issues.
We hope this information is helpful. If you should have questions or concerns at any time during the admissions process or while your son or daughter is enrolled at Herkimer, we encourage you to contact us. Although FERPA restricts us from sharing some information with parents, in most cases, we are able to provide guidance to help you find answers to your questions.
Best wishes for a successful and enjoyable college experience!
Sincerely,

Matthew Hawes, Ed.D.
