March 13, 2008

Lazarus Named to Green and Gold Club

Theresa Lazarus, a 5’11’’ freshman guard from Unadilla Valley High School, averaged 15 points and six rebounds per game during the month of February. Lazarus was named to the All Region III second team and earned First Team All Mountain Valley honors. She was the Generals’ leading scorer tallying 14.2 point per game. Herkimer ended the season in the quarterfinals of the Region III Championships with a record of 17-12. “Theresa had an outstanding freshman year and has a very bright future ahead,” said Coach John Campagna.

February 29, 2008

The Generals ended their 2007-08 season with a disappointing loss to SUNY Cobleskill 59-37. Herkimer played well defensively but had a difficult time scoring, shooting a dismal 18% for the game. Theresa Lazarus led the way with 14 points and seven rebounds.

February 23, 2008

Herkimer fought back from an 18 point first half deficit to defeat SUNY Delhi 60-57. Ann Schoff converted two free throws with 10 seconds remaining to seal the win. The Generals outscored Delhi 35-18 in the final 26 minutes of the game. Ann Schoff led the Generals with 16 points, and Michelle Johnson chipped in with 10 points.

The HCCC women’s basketball team is the #5 seed in the Women’s Basketball Region III Division III Basketball Tournament this weekend at Tompkins -Cortland CC. They will face #4 SUNY Cobleskill on Friday at 6:00 p.m.

Herkimer lost to Mohawk Valley Community College 84-42. Theresa Lazarus and Ann Schoff combined for 24 of the Generals' 42 points.

February 14, 2008

The Generals improved to 16-10 with a win over Fulton-Montgomery Community College 59-37. Theresa Lazarus scored 21 points, and Michelle Johnson and Amanda Davey added eight each to lead Herkimer.

Senior Michelle Johnson, Richmondville, led the women’s basketball team to an 8-1 record during the month of January.She became the College’s all-time leading three-point shooter connecting on 109 three-point field goals in her career to date. She averaged 12 points per game in January and is currently ranked ninth nationally in three-point shooting percentage at 39 percent. Coach John Campagna said “Michelle is a very good defender and is great in transition from defense to offense.” Johnson is a graduate of Cobleskill-Richmond High School.

January 20, 2008

The Generals extended their longest win streak of the year to six games by defeating Clinton Community College 50-36.  Herkimer played excellent defense holding the hosts to just 36 points.  Michelle Johnson led the 12-8 Generals with nine points.  

January 19, 2008

Herkimer played their first road game of the second semester defeating Adirondack Community College 87-45. Theresa Lazarus poured in 22 points and teammate Amanda Davey added 18 points and nine rebounds.

January 17, 2008

The Generals played one of their best games to date beating Fulton- Montgomery Community College 95-56.  Seven Generals scored nine points or more as the hosts extended their win streak to four games. Theresa Lazarus led the charge with 19 points and Amanda Davey had a solid game with 15 points, seven rebounds and five5 steals.

January 12, 2008

Herkimer outscored Clinton Community College 75-64 for their ninth win of the year. Theresa Lazarus and Michelle Johnson score 20 points each to lead HCCC. Johnson connected on two late three-pointers to seal the win for the Generals. Colleen Getman had another solid game scoring 11 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. 

January 10, 2008

The Generals defeated Schenectady Community College 48-33. Herkimer was led by Ann Schoff and Hannah Gates (nine points each). Michelle Johnson added seven and the Generals raised their record to 8-8.

January 6, 2008

Herkimer opened the second semester with a solid win over visiting Cayuga Community College 60-44. All nine players scored in the contest with Ann Schoff leading the way with 14 points and six rebounds. Michelle Johnson and Denise Kelly added nine points each.

December 11, 2007

Herkimer ran into a very tough Broome team and was soundly defeated 64-40.  The Generals were playing their third tough game in four days on the road and fell apart late in the first half. Ann Schoff and Michelle Johnson scored eight points apiece for the visiting Generals. Herkimer ends the first semester schedule with a 6-8 record.

December 9, 2007

The Generals were defeated by SUNY Canton in the championship game of the Onondaga Tournament 53-38. Herkimer led 21-13 midway through the first half before trailing by two at halftime. Michelle Johnson led the way scoring 13 points, and Amanda Davey was named to the All-Tournament team.

December 8, 2007

Herkimer earned their first win of the season against a ranked opponent Onondaga Community College 60-51. Onondaga was ranked eighth in the country with an 8-1 record coming into the game. The Generals played very good defense holding the Lazers to 51 points on their home court. Herkimer was led by Amanda Davey scoring 13 points and grabbing nine rebounds. Pam Wilday added 10 points and six assists while Colleen Getman chipped in with 13 rebounds.

December 5, 2007

Herkimer defeated Tompkins-Cortland Community College 92-61 and improved to 5-6 on the season. Leading the way for the Generals were Theresa Lazarus and Michelle Johnson with 18 points each. Amanda Davey and Ann Schoff contributed 15 and 12 points, respectively, with every player scoring for Herkimer in the win. 

December 4, 2007

Non-perishable food items will be accepted at Herkimer County Community College home basketball games throughout the month of December. All food collected will be donated locally. Admission to the games is free.

Women’s games are scheduled for 5 p.m. on December 5 vs. Tompkins-Cortland CC, and 6 p.m. on December 13 vs. SUNY Delhi. The men’s team will play Tompkins-Cortland at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, December 5 and North Country CC at 1 p.m. on December 9. Games are held in the Varsity Gym in the Physical Education Building.

The food drive is sponsored by the Herkimer County Community College Intercollegiate Athletic Council.

November 27, 2007

The Generals were defeated by Mohawk Valley CC 69-35. Herkimer collected only 16 rebounds in the game, and freshman Hannah Gates was the leading rebounder with five. Michelle Johnson and Pam Wilday led Herkimer in scoring with 10 and eight points respectively.

November 20, 2007

Herkimer was defeated by Finger Lakes Community College 79-51. Pam Wilday tossed in 14 points and handed out nine assists in the loss. Theresa Lazarus added 11 points as the Generals fell to 4-5 on the season.

November 18, 2007

Theresa Lazarus made two three-point baskets in the final minute to lead Herkimer to a 66-61 victory at Corning Community College. Lazarus scored 19 points in the game, and teammates Michelle Johnson and Ann Schoff combined for 26 points for the 4-4 Generals.

November 15, 2007

The Generals finally earned their first home win by beating Jefferson Community College 70-55. All ten players scored for Herkimer with Theresa Lazarus leading the way with 18 points. The Generals improved their record to 3-4 on the season.

November 13, 2007

Herkimer lost to Hudson Valley 65-62 in a Mountain Valley Conference match-up. The Vikings led by as many as 18 points in the second half before the Generals closed the gap to two in the final minute. Theresa Lazarus tallied 23 points and grabbed 8 rebounds. Pam Wilday added 11 points and recorded 8 assists.

November 8, 2007

The Generals suffered a hard fought loss to SUNY Cobleskill 67-63. Herkimer led by as many as 14 points in the second half before Cobleskill made a big run to end the game.  The Generals were led in scoring by Michelle Johnson and Theresa Lazarus.

November 6, 2007

The Generals overcame a slow start and defeated Cayuga Community College 66-55. Herkimer had balanced scoring and were led by Ann Schoff and Michelle Johnson scoring 14 points each. Mandy Davey, Theresa Lazarus and Colleen Getman all scored double figures as Herkimer improved to 2-2 on the season.

November 4, 2007

Herkimer won their first game of the season beating Gloucester Community College of New Jersey 80-62.  Gloucester is ranked eighth nationally in the NJCAA Division III Pre-Season Poll. The Generals were led by Michelle Johnson (All-Tournament selection) scoring 24 points. Theresa Lazarus added 17 points and Mandy Davey chipped in 13.

November 3, 2007

The Generals lost to Division II powerhouse Community College of Rhode Island 75-47. Herkimer fell behind early in the game but was able to regroup at halftime and outscore CCRI 33-32 in the second half. Theresa Lazarus led the Generals with 11 points and Mandy Davey added nine.

Herkimer lost to Finger Lakes Community College 80-78 in their season opener. The high-scoring game saw many lead changes with the Generals coming up short at the end. Freshman Theresa Lazarus had 27 points and Pam Wilday tossed in 21 for Herkimer. Ann Schoff and Colleen Getman combined for 16 points and 20 rebounds.
