2007 HCCC Athletic Awards

Jessika Coones, Richfield Springs was presented with a Coach’s Award at the College’s annual athletic banquet. Michelle Johnson, Cobleskill, received the Most Improved Award.

Women's Basketball Awards

Four Herkimer County Community College women’s basketball players earned honors for the 2007 season.

Senior Tonisha Kirby, Bronx, was named Second Team All-Region III and First Team All-Conference. A 5’7” point guard, Kirby was the floor leader for Herkimer. She led the Generals in assists (6.9 assists per game), and averaged 8.6 points and 4.9 rebounds per game.

 

Jessika Coones, Richfield Springs, and Sarah Lazarus, South New Berlin, both seniors, were selected Second Team All-Mountain Valley Conference. A 5’8” forward, Coones led the Generals in scoring and rebounding for the past two years and was the team’s most consistent performer. Lazarus, a 5’7” guard, led the team in steals (3.3 steals per game) and was the team’s defensive leader.

 

 

 

 

Freshman Michelle Johnson, Cobleskill, was selected Third Team All-Mountain Valley Conference. Johnson, a 5’4” guard, averaged 8.3 points per game and led the team in three-point shooting connecting on 48 three’s during the season.

 

The Generals competed in the Region III championship tournament losing in the semi-finals and finished the season with an overall record of 22-8.

Mohawk Valley Community College 61
The Generals’ season came to an end at the Region III tournament to eventual champion Mohawk Valley Community college 61-37. Herkimer suffered through another poor shooting performance scoring a season low 37 points. Dana Gentile led the way with 10 points as the Generals finish the season with a 22-8 final record.

SUNY Cobleskill 44
Herkimer defeated SUNY Cobleskill 46-44 in the quarterfinals of the Region III tournament at Cayuga County Community College. It was the first time in seven years since the Generals reached the semifinals of the Region III championships. Ashley Fowler led HCCC with 10 points and Jessika Coones added 9.

The Generals played back to back games for the first time this season and defeated Fulton-Montgomery Community College 72-66. Jessika Coones and Sarah Lazarus scored 13 points each in the win. Ashley Fowler and Kyrah seamon chipped in with 12 and 11 points respectively.

Herkimer recorded their 20th win of the year by defeating Schenectady County Community College 84-40. Tonisha Kirby led a well-balanced attack with 15 points.  Michelle Johnson, Colleen Getman and Sarah Lazarus all scored double figures for the Generals.

The Generals suffered their seventh loss of the season to rival Mohawk Valley 64-49.  Herkimer shot poorly converting on 14 of 61 field goal attempts and making only 20 of 39 foul shots. Tonisha Kirby led the way with 10 points and 4 assists.

Herkimer defeated Columbia Greene Community College 79-20. The Generals were led by Jessika Coones with 17 points. Kyrah Seamon and Michelle Johnson added 14 and 12 points in the win.

The Generals defeated SUNY Delhi 82-33 to improve their record to 18-6 on the year. Michelle Johnson continued to score well leading Herkimer with 20 points.

Herkimer defeated Cayuga County Community College 66-56.  The game was close throughout, and HCCC held a slim 35-33 haftime advantage. The Generals were led by Michelle Johnson who made four three-point field goals and had a game high 16 points. Colleen Getman and Tonisha Kirby added 11 and 10 points respectively.

The Generals defeated Columbia-Greene Community College 93-30. Tonisha Kirby led Herkimer with 14 points and 10 assists. Kyrah Seamon and Colleen Getman added 12 points each.

Herkimer was defeated by Onondaga Community College 64-59. Herkimer had its chances down the stretch, but was unable to hold off the Lady Lasers. Michelle Johnson led Herkimer with 16 points (13 in the second half). Jessika Coones added 11 points.

The Generals scored a team record 109 points in a blowout win over Adirondack Community College 109-62. Herkimer made another record with 14 three-point field goals in the contest. Kyrah Seamon led HCCC with 20 points. Tonisha Kirby, Jessika Coones, Ashley Fowler, Michelle Johnson and Pam Wilday all were on the board with double figure scoring.

The Generals avenged an earlier season loss to Hudson Valley CC by defeating them 84-51. Freshman Michelle Johnson led Herkimer with 18 points connecting on six three-point field goals, and Colleen Getman added 13 points.

Herkimer County Community College rallied in the second half to defeat a very good SUNY Cobleskill team 65-50. Tonisha Kirby led the Generals with 14 points and 10 assists. Dana Gentile, Jessika Coones and Kyrah Seamon scored double figures for the Generals as they raised their record to 13-5 on the season.

The Generals were defeated by rival Mohawk Valley Community College 66-50.  The Hawks broke open a close game after leading 32-28 at halftime. Herkimer struggled through a tough second half converting on only 12 of 26 from the charity stripe. Sarah Lazarus led Herkimer with 11 points.

Herkimer raced to a 58-18 halftime lead to defeat visiting Finger Lakes Community College 85-67. The Generals played their best game to date and improved to 5-3. Tonisha Kirby led the Generals with 21 points, and Jessika Coones added 14.

Visiting Corning Community College was forced into numerous turnovers throughout the game as the Generals won their second consecutive game 71-32. Herkimer was led by Tonisha Kirby with 12 points. Sarah Lazarus and Michelle Johnson chipped in with nine points each.

The Generals went on the road to Watertown and defeated Jefferson Community College 56-45. The win snapped a three-game skid as Herkimer improved to 3-3 on the season. Jessicka Coones led a well-balanced attack with 11 points. Tonisha Kirby and Kyrah Seamon added 10 each.

Herkimer dropped their third straight game to Hudson Valley Community College 65-58. The Generals led 36-24 at halftime and were unable to keep the lead as the Vikings scored 41 points in the second half. Dana Gentile led Herkimer with 11 points, and Kyrah Seamon tallied nine.

Herkimer--The Generals suffered a heartbreaking loss of 58-57 to SUNY Canton. Canton trailed most of the second half taking their first lead with 18 seconds remaining on a lay-up by Alicia Abby. Herkimer was led by Jessika Coones with 13 points and eight rebounds. Tonisha Kirby added nine points and 10 assists.

Herkimer County Community College’s women’s basketball team improved its record to 2-0 with a 73-48 victory at Cayuga County Community College. Kyrah Seamon led the Generals with 18 points missing only once in nine attempts. Tonisha Kirby added 11 points and five assists. Sophomore forward Ashley Fowler had a strong game with eight points and seven rebounds.

The Herkimer Generals won their 2006-07 season opening game on the road against Finger Lakes Community College 86-82. Herkimer was led by Jessika Coones who tossed in 32 points and grabbed 12 rebounds. Tonisha Kirby added 14 points and six assists as the Generals built a healthy 45-29 halftime lead. Freshman Courtney Adam chipped in with 15 points.

December 2, 2005

Herkimer evened their Mountain Valley Conference record to 2-2 with a win over SUNY Delhi 57-27. The Generals held Delhi scoreless for the first 10 minutes of the second half. Victoria Gingras led the defensive effort playing excellent post defense.

November 29, 2005

The Generals were beaten by Mohawk Valley CC 73-46 in a Mountain Valley Conference game. Jessika Coones led Herkimer with 12 points and Tessa Massett chipped in with 11.

November 22, 2005
Finger Lakes size was too much for the much smaller Generals as the Lakers defeated Herkimer 80-69. Herkimer did force 36 Laker turnovers, but poor rebounding and shooting plagued the Generals as they dropped their third game in a row.

November 20, 2005

Herkimer suffered a tough one point road loss to Corning Community College 59-58. The Generals were led by Sarah Lazarus with 14 points,10 rebounds and 12 steals. Ashley Fowler had a strong game contributing 18 points and 8 rebounds. Richfield Springs native Jessika Coones had a game high 16 rebounds.

November 17, 2005

The Generals lost a hard fought battle against a very good Jefferson team 49-33 to even their record at 3-3. Herkimer limited Jefferson to just three total field goals in the second half but were unable to convert on the offensive end shooting a dismal 11 for 67 from the floor.

November 15, 2005

Herkimer broke their two-game losing skid by beating Hudson Valley 68-66. Ashley Perkins made a three-pointer with 10 seconds left in the game to give the Generals their only lead of the second half. Sarah Lazarus had the assist on the play and also added 12 points, six rebounds and five steals. Herkimer trailed by as many as nine points with just over five minutes to play and battled back without point guard Tonisha Kirby (22 points) who left the game with a knee injury.

November 10, 2005

The Generals were beaten by a strong SUNY Cobleskill squad 64-39. Bethany Stockholm gave Herkimer some offensive punch with 10 points, but she was the only player to score double figures.

November 8, 2005

Herkimer suffered a loss in their first road game of the year at SUNY Canton (67-54). The Generals were led by Tessa Massett with 12 points, and Jessika Coones contributed 10 points and seven rebounds.

November 5, 2005

The Generals improved to 2-0 with a 62-57 win over Cayuga CC. Sophomore captain Tessa Massett led the way with 16 points while Jessika Coones and Tonisha Kirby added 14 each. Herkimer trailed by as many as nine points late in the game, but outscored the Spartans 15-1 over the final four minutes.

The Lady Generals opened the 2005-06 season yesterday with a win over Finger Lakes Community College (66-59). Freshman Tonisha Kirby led the Generals with 27 points and four assists. Co-Captains Tessa Massett and Tinesha Jacks chipped in with 14 and 11 points respectively.  Sarah Lazarus provided the defensive spark for Herkimer with five steals.
