Former General Signs Professional Baseball Contract
Everett Saul missed his opportunity in this past MLB draft, but now he is chasing his goal another way, by proving he belongs.
Saul a 6’ 5 right-handed pitcher signed a professional contract with the Florence Freedom in Florence, Kentucky. After 5
games started so far this season, Saul stands at 4-1 and has been a key part in stabilizing the Freedom’s rotation. Saul
who has been recorded at 94 mph is racking up the strikeouts for the Freedom. Saul pitched for the Generals in 2004 and
2005, still stands tied for second in the record books when he compiled 6 wins his senior season. Saul also stands first
in all time strikeouts at the college with 122 in two seasons. Saul is from Sullivan, NY and continued his college career
at Western Missouri State University on a baseball scholarship.

HCCC Student Athletes Earn 2008 Academic All-Region Awards
Twelve Herkimer County Community College student athletes recently received the 2008 Academic All-Region award. This honor is given by NJCAA Region III to athletes who have earned at least 45 credit hours and a grade point average of 3.5 or better.
HCCC's recipients are: Paul Rosbrook, Rome, cross country; Ann Schoff, Little Falls, women's basketball; Alicia Maneen, Frankfort, volleyball; Kelcy Newman, Newport, swimming and diving; Melissa Lenaghen, Utica, bowling; Courtney Roberts, Clinton, soccer and softball; Denise Kelly, Canandaigua, women's basketball; Eri Akiyama, Kanagawa, Japan, swimming and diving; Colleen Getman, Herkimer, women's basketball; Sara Abele, Little Falls, bowling; Matt Gonyea, Dolgeville, baseball; and Bridget Hartman, Saratoga Springs, women's lacrosse.

Women's Bowling and Swimming Teams Named National Academic Teams of the Year
Two Herkimer County Community College athletic teams earned the distinction of being named National Academic Team of the Year for 2007-08. The women's swim team had an average GPA of 3.79, and the women's bowling team had an average GPA of 3.28.
The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) awards this honor annually to teams with an average cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better.

Frankfort Standout Matt Rotundo Commits to Herkimer Baseball
Frankfort High School and Adrean Post standout Matt Rotundo has signed a letter of intent to attend
Herkimer County Community College next season. “Matt has the drive and desire to win and compete at a high level.
I think he will push other players to give their best effort everyday, a real competitor on the field,” stated Head Coach
Jason Rathbun. Matt is a strong middle infielder who hit .530 as a junior and hit .515 as a senior this past season.
HCCC Receives National Recognition for Athletic Excellence

Herkimer County Community College received the National Alliance of Two-Year College Athletic Administrators (NATYCAA) Cup award for its second place national finish among non-scholarship Division III community college athletic programs in 2007-2008. The NATYCAA Cup awards are given annually to recognize overall athletic program excellence by two-year colleges at the national level. This is the third consecutive year that Herkimer has won a NATYCAA Cup, and the first time in college history to finish second.
The College of DuPage (IL) came in first place and Gloucester County College (NJ) came in third. Herkimer received the top-ranking among scholarship and non-scholarship community college athletic programs in New York State. The Generals earned 143 points for national placements in women’s and men’s cross country, women’s and men’s bowling, women’s and men’s swimming, women’s and men’s track and field, women’s and men’s lacrosse and men’s soccer.
HCCC Director of Athletics Donald Dutcher received the award at the national convention in Dallas Texas. “We are very proud of this ranking. It’s a testament to a long history of hard work on the part of the entire athletic department staff and student athletes, together with the support of our faculty and the College administration. It is a total team effort,” said Dutcher.
NATYCAA is the professional organization of two-year college athletic administrators with membership open to all two-year colleges in the nation.

Freshman Ty Folli Named NJCAA Baseball All American
Ty Folli (Union Endicott, NY) was named second team All American by the NJCAA this week. Folli who finished third in voting for Region III Player of the Year led the Generals this past season in batting average with a .412 mark. Folli also added 11 doubles, 2 homeruns, and 36 runs batted in. Folli who just completed his freshman season will lead a talented group of sophomores next year.

Three Receive Scholar Athlete Awards
Three Herkimer County Community College students received the 2007-08 SUNY Chancellor's Scholar Athlete Award, which recognizes a combination of academic excellence and outstanding athletic achievement. Recipients of this year's award include 76 student athletes from 27 SUNY campuses for participation in 25 different sports. Collectively, these student athletes have posted an average GPA of 3.62. The recipients from HCCC, all May 2008 graduates, are Ivan Guarin, men's soccer; Justin Hayes, men's lacrosse; and Denise Kelly, women's track. For more on the recipients.

Former HCCC Lacrosse Player Named ECC Player of the Year
Former Herkimer County Community College Lacrosse player Eddie Ege of Adelphi University and Rockville Centre, New York has been named the East Coast Conference (ECC) Men's Lacrosse Player of the Year, headlining the 2008 ECC All Conference Awards as voted by the conference coaches.
Ege led the Panthers with 22 goals and 52 assists for 74 points over 12 games including an 8-29-37 mark in ECC play. Ege also finished as the ECC leader in points per game (6.17) and assists per game (4.33) average.

Herkimer Baseball Advances to Regional Final Four for Fourth Straight Season

The #3 seed in the Region III baseball tournament Herkimer CCC hosted #6 Jamestown CC in the Tuesday sub-regional game. Herkimer was 3-0 under Coach Rathbun entering this Tuesday elimination nine inning game. Coach Rathbun's first regional playoff win in 2005 came as the #6 seed against Jamestown who was the #3 coming off a World Series appearance in 2004. Herkimer jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead in the first innings with the first run crossing the plate on a Ty Folli single. Jamestown would score 2 in the second and would tie the game on a 2 run homerun by Nat Barone in the fourth. Herkimer answered in the bottom of the fourth with a RBI single by Nick Testa to make it 5-4. Jamestown tied the game in the fifth inning with a safety squeeze bunt to tie it at 5. Herkimer would answer again in the bottom of the inning scoring a run and taking a 6-5 lead. Herkimer would then add 2 runs in the sixth and seventh innings and hold on to the 10-7 victory. #3 Herkimer now will play #2 Hudson Valley CC in Batavia at Noon on Friday May 9th. The Regional Final Four is a double elimination tournament, with the winner advancing to the JUCO World Series in Tyler, Texas. Herkimer has won the Regional Championship the past two seasons.

Track and Field Wins Regional Championship
HCCC’s women’s track and field team won a Regional championship by an impressive score of 163.5 with MVCC in second with 115.
First place finishers were:
Chantal Salamone in the triple jump and 100 hurdles,
Sarah Lazarus 3000 steeplechase,
Beth Jennings in the shot put,
Amanda Davey in the 400 hurdles,
Chantal also received female Field Athlete of the meet.
The men took 7th place.
Kurt Vowell took 1st in the triple jump and 3rd in the long jump. He also ran on the 6th place 400 relay team.

Men’s and Women’s Lacrosse In Regional Championship Game Today
The Herkimer Generals Men’s and Women’s Lacrosse team will both have a tough battle today as they play in the Regional Championship Games today. The Women will face the Monroe Tribunes beginning at Noon, while the Men will face rival Onondaga Lazers today beginning at 3:00 p.m. Both teams are looking to recapture the Regional Championships and head to their respective National Tournaments next weekend.

Former Herkimer County Community College men's soccer player Ryan Pierce helped lead the Baltimore Blast to win the 2008 Major Indoor Soccer League Championship. The Blast defeated La Raza (Mexico) by a score of 14-11 Saturday to win their fourth championship in six years.
"Ryan has won two professional soccer championships in one year in two different leagues," said HCCC soccer coach Pepe Aragon. "What he has accomplished in his first year as a professional is amazing. Most players go through their entire career without ever winning a championship."
Pierce also helped lead the Harrisburg City Islanders of the United Soccer League Second Division to a title last summer.

Herkimer County Community College All American Keith Hendricks has
signed a letter of intent to attend Flagler College on a Division II baseball scholarship next season. Hendricks is from Stuart, Florida and will attend Flagler which is located in St. Augustine, Florida. Hendricks is captain of this years
Herkimer squad which is currently 21-11 and 19-9 in Region III. Hendricks is leading the team in homeruns with 5, triples with 3 and runs batted in with 34. Hendricks will be the 19th student athlete to sign a baseball scholarship and the 27th
player to move on to a four year baseball program in the past four years. "I am so proud of Keith and the person he has matured into. To come to Herkimer from Florida and completely turn around his future into a All American Division II
baseball scholarship player is a great story," stated head coach Jason Rathbun.

Retiring teacher Bruce Caskey threw out the first pitch in Thursday's doubleheader with Broome CC. Herkimer would get solid starts from Don Potter in game one who would improve to 4-1 on the season and Mitch Kierpiec in game two who moved to 5-1 as Herkimer swept a doubleheader from Broome CC. Herkimer was led at the plate by Ty Folli who was 3-6 with 6 runs batted in on the day. Ron Patterson was 4-7 on the afternoon, Notre Dame's Ben Brady was 3-3 in game two. Herkimer moves to 25-11 on the season and 23-9 in Region III. Herkimer ends the regular season Saturday at Hudson Valley. With a sweep the Generals would hold a piece of the Mountain Valley Conference championship. Seeding for the Region III tournament is Sunday night.

Herkimer wins 19 to 5 over Fingerlakes in REGION 3 subregional game
Herkimer (14-1) will advance to the Region 3 semifinal game at Herkimer on Saturday May 3 at 2:30 pm. Herkimer, the #1 ranked team, will face the #4 ranked Monroe Community College. Scoring tonight for the Generals was Kevin Kemp with 5 goals and 2 assists. Billy Bushell had 2 goals and 3 assists, Dave Brock had 2 goals and 3 assists, Justin Hayes had 3 and 2 , Doug Hoch had 2 and 1, JP Finn had 2 and 3, and Drew Crutcher had 3 and 0. Zach Bates had 15 saves on the night in goal and Mike Cobb had 2 saves in the win for Herkimer.

Generals win 17 - 5 over Hudson Valley C.C.
The men's lacrosse team traveled to Hudson Valley CC Thursday afternoon to play their fourth game in six days. Coach Rich Dommer said, "Four games in six days is extremely exhausting, both mentally and physically, and our staff has been very impressed in how the guys did it." The Generals' overall record is now 12-1, and 10-0 in Region 3, which makes Herkimer the #1 seed in the regional playoffs. This is the first time in four years the Generals have gone into the tournament ranked #1.
The scoring for Herkimer came from multiple team members. Justin Hayes, Dave Brock and Jake Koch all came up big. Hayes came up with 1 goal and 7 assists. Brock ended up with 4 goals and 2 assists and Jake Koch tallied 5 goals on the day. JP Finn had 2 goals and 1 assist, Kevin Kemp had 1 goal and 3 assists, Doug Hoch had 2 goals and 1 assist and Drew Crutcher and Mike Cobb added single goal games. Also helping with the scoring was David Limbouris with an assist and Justin Gill with 2 assists.
Although this was a game littered with penalty flags, Herkimer played through the adversity and held strong under the leadership of both goalies Zach Bates and Danny Solazzo. Bates had 15 saves and Solazzo made 7 saves in the win. A breakout game was had by freshman Pat Sullivan on the defensive half. "Pat stepped it up scooping very timely loose balls and clearing the ball up to the offense. Patty really impressed us tonight and will be rewarded for this," said Dommer. "We have one more regular season game left and it's a big one for us. I know we are riding these last couple of wins out right now, and feeling good about them, but we have to get right back at it and focus on Saturday's game. All the hard work we put in this past fall and during early spring will pay off this late in the season if the boys can stay focused. This is a crucial time for us to come together and play our family style of lacrosse -- Herkimer Lacrosse."
Next up for Herkimer is Essex CC from Baltimore MD. The game will be played Saturday in HCCC's Wehrum Stadium at 3pm.

Former Herkimer County Community College men's soccer star Dwight Barnett, who plays for the Montreal Impact of the United Soccer League First Division, scored his first goal of his professional soccer career in the 83rd minute of a 2-1 victory over Miami FC. Barnett dribbled past the goalkeeper and chipped a defender for the game winning goal.
"Dwight is a tremendous forward with a gift for scoring," said Generals coach Pepe Aragon. A native of Jamaica, NY, Barnett graduated from HCCC in December 2005.
The Impact will travel to Atlanta on Friday, April 25 to take on the Silverbacks in a game that will be aired live on national television. Kick-off is at 8:00 p.m. on Fox Soccer Channel.

Justin Gill, a sophomore Criminal Justice major, and a member of the
men's lacrosse and bowling teams has been awarded a Presidential
scholarship award for his hard work in the classroom and as a
student-athlete. "Justin's academic success is a testament to the time
and dedication Justin gives to his studies. We are all proud of Justin
for what he has accomplished in his career at Herkimer," said men's
lacrosse coach Rich Dommer. Justin has narrowed his options for next
fall to Alfred University, Mercyhurst College and Siena College.

Herkimer C.C. Men's Lacrosse Improves to 10 - 1 after 29 - 11 victory over Alfred State
Herkimer was off to an unusually slow start on Monday after traveling to Alfred State for a game originally scheduled for the March 29 but postponed due to inclement weather. "Our team has been faced with some adversity and we are overcoming it," said Coach Rich Dommer. "The first quarter was an adjusting period for the guys as we made some severe changes to our line ups Monday due to the fact that many of our student-athletes had classes. Academics and degree first - lacrosse second!"
Sparked by Kevin Kemp and Justin Hayes, Herkimer hit their stride early in the second quarter and never looked back. Kevin Kemp finished the day with 2 goals and 12 assists. Senior captain Justin Hayes had another great night finishing with 4 goals and 6 assists. "Kevin and Justin played very unselfish lacrosse tonight and spread the wealth to their teammates and this makes our staff very proud of them," said Dommer. Jake Koch and Chase Dominic both finished with 4 points on 3 goals and 1 assist. Doug Hoch, J.P. Finn and David Limbouris all added three a piece in the win. Justin Gill added 2 goals and 1 assist on the day. Tommy Szevin had 1 goal and 1 assist. Drew Crutcher, Brandon Phelps, Brendan Slepoy, Mike Cobb and Matt Daigle all added 1 goal apiece in the victory.
Face-offs were controlled by Tommy Steinberg, JP Finn, Tim Manoogian and Doug Hoch winning a combined 27 face-offs. In goal for the Generals was freshman keeper Danny Solazzo who had a solid performance with 23 saves and a much improved clearing game. The Generals stay in control of Region III as they remain the top ranked team with a record of 10- 1 overall and 8-0 in Region III competition.
The Generals have a busy week ahead with Broome at 7pm on Tuesday at home, Hudson Valley (away) on Thursday and Essex (Baltimore) at home at 3pm on Saturday.

In goal for Herkimer was Zach Bates playing only the first quarter and having 1 save. Finishing the game was Danny Solazzo who had 9 saves in the win.
The pace of the game was controlled by our face off men - Joey Lehner and Tommy Steinberg. Joey won 17 of 23 taken and Tommy won 6 of 8 taken.
The Generals are now 9 - 0 and currently ranked # 1 in the NJCAA. The Generals are home this Saturday at 1pm against Nassau C.C. who is currently ranked 3rd in the NJCAA.
Rathbun Notches 100th Victory
Herkimer County Community College Head Baseball Coach Jason Rathbun notched his 100th victory on Sunday April 13th. The milestone win came in the game 1 victory of a double-header versus Corning Community College.
During Rathbun's short, but impressive tenure at Herkimer, he has compiled on overall record of 101-37 (.731) in his fourth season at the helm. During his managerial reign, Herkimer has made 2 World Series appearances including a 3rd place finish in the national tournament last season. Herkimer baseball has also appeared in 3 Regional Final Fours, winning the regional championship the last two seasons. On top of all the on-the-field success Rathbun's teams have experienced, his team, along with individual players have earned numerous academic honors. The 2006 World Series Team was awarded National Academic All American Honors with a GPA over 3.0 for the sport of baseball.

Herkimer traveled to Corcoran High School to play Onondaga. Herkimer went in to the game ranked # 2 in the NJCAA while Onondaga was ranked # 1. It was a high tempo game, end to end, strong transition - race horse lacrosse. Herkimer came out on top because we played a complete game and we played it together. Herkimer now takes over as the # 1 ranked team in the country and advances to 8 - 0. The final score was 24 - 19.
Freshman Doug Hoch from Lakeland, NY finished with 8 goals. Justin Hayes who is our captain, lefty attackman had a great day he finished with 2 goals and 6 assists. Justin is currently leading the country in goals. Dave Brock had a great day with 5 goals and 2 assists. Kevin Kemp had another big game for us with 3 goals and 1 assist. Billy Bushell our x attackman had 2 and 1, but controlled the ball behind the net and grabbed 5 ground balls which turned into positive possessions for us. Jake Koch had a huge day in between the lines and on the wing grabbing 12 loose balls and going 3 and 1 on the day. Our face - off guys were challenged all day and played great, but our defense was led by senior goalie Zach Bates.

Senior Justin Hayes, a captain for the men's lacrosse team, was selected for tallying 36 points (21 goals and 15 assists) in only four games. From Hudson, Ohio, Hayes is among the top point leaders in the country in the NJCAA and has collected 31 ground balls. "Justin is one of the best players in the country and will go to one of the top schools in Division I next fall," said lacrosse coach Rich Dommer. Hayes is also a member of the Phi Theta Kappa international honor society.
Makenzie Sager, Johnstown, is a second year player for the women's lacrosse team. In the team's only game in March, Sager was scored one goal for the Generals. Women's lacrosse coach Dianna Ste-Marie said "Makenzie's shooting skills and attack vision have improved 100% from last year, and I expect many more goals from her this season."
Bowling Team presents check to Child Care Center
The HCCC bowling team presented a check for $195 to the HCCC Child Care Center to help fund a field trip to the Utica Zoo. Tom Dunn, a member of the men's bowling team, raised $118.00 of the pledges. Former HCCC baseball standout Drew Farley, of Utica, was named Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Week. A junior at Bellevue University (NE), Farley played in five games this week helping the Bruins to a 3-2 record with a 13-1 win over Briar Cliff University and two wins over York College in conference play, 12-4 and 5-1. He had hits in every game he started going 5-for-13 batting .385 with six runs and six RBI's powered behind a double, triple and homerun. He added a stolen base and a pair of walks committing one error in 19 chances. Farley had 11 putouts in Bellevue's 5-1 win against York in Friday's final game. The Bruins are 19-10 overall and rated No. 11 in NAIA.

The men's lacrosse team opened their season at home by beating the No. 3 team in the nation, Howard Community College 21-10. With this win, it makes the Generals 2-0 on the season. The Generals received a great effort from Justin Hayes (8 goals/4 assists) and returning All-American Dave Brock (6 goals/2 assists). Zach Bates had 18 saves on goal. The Generals return to action March 26th on the road against Cayuga Community College.

Soccer Team Participates in America's Greatest Heart Run and Walk

The HCCC men’s soccer team ran three miles in America's Greatest Heart Run and Walk on Saturday, March 8. The team joined with other faculty and staff to form "Team HCCC " captained by College President Ronald F. Williams. The annual event raised $1,204,594 for the Amercian Heart Association. “It was great to get the guys together to support such a great cause,” s aid men’s soccer coach Pepe Aragon. “My father had open heart surgery about 10 years ago and is living a great life today thanks to the medical advances made possible by research.”

The men’s and women’s swim team traveled to Indian River Community College in Fort Pierce, Florida to compete in the 2008 NJCAA Swimming & Diving National Championships.
Top Finishes for the Women’s Team:
Kelcy Newman: 5th place in the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 1:18.51. She set a new school record in the morning prelim event with a time of 1:17.68.10th place in the 200 yard breaststroke with a time of 2:54.70, setting a new school record.
Eri Akiyama: 7th place in the 200 yard butterfly with a time of 2:46.62.11th place in the 400 yard individual medley with a time of 6:02.21.
Top Finishes for the Men’s Team:
Tim Manoogian: 9th place in the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 1:02.19, setting a new school record.
Bryan Koscinski: 15th place in the 200 yard breaststroke with a time of 2:34.90.
Swim Coach Vicki Brown said “Considering the high caliber of athletes and teams we compete with at the national level, I am extremely pleased and proud of our accomplishments. The athletes' determination and passion for their sport is to be commended. Our swims this weekend put HCCC and our swim program on the map.”

Buffalo, NY - The Herkimer County Community College men's and women's bowling teams completed their seasons this past weekend at the 2008 NJCAA Bowling Nationals. The women's team finished fourth, and the men's team finished sixth. The women's team was once again led by captain Sara Abele who finished tenth overall and finished fourth in doubles competition with Kristen Foley. Sara Caruso finished 14th in the overall competition. The men's team climbed two spots in the standings on the final day of competition to finish sixth overall. Dylan Brown was the highest men's finisher with a 22nd place finish in the overall competition. Adam Bridenbecker posted the third highest single game of the event when he rolled a 258.

Basketball Player Robby Marshall Named Region III Player of the Year
Herkimer County Community College basketball player Robby Marshall, of Syracuse, was named NJCAA Region III Player of the Year for the second consecutive year. He is a two-time All-American and was the 2007 Mountain Valley Conference Player of the Year. A 6’7” forward, Marshall averages 18.2 points and 10.3 rebounds per game.

Former Herkimer Lacrosse Standout Dan Carey to Start for West All-Stars
The National Lacrosse League announced that Colorado Mammoth forward Dan Carey, a 2004 graduate of HCCC, has been selected for the starting lineup of the West Division All-Star team. The 2008 NLL All-Star Game will be played at Rexall Place in Edmonton, Alberta, on Sunday, March 16. Carey, an All-Star in each of his three seasons in the NLL, will make his second consecutive appearance in the starting lineup. He leads the Mammoth with 17 goals. Carey was a standout lacrosse player for the Herkimer Generals and helped lead his time to a national championship in 2003. For more info...

Abele Named All-Conference Bowler
Senior Sara Abele, Little Falls, was named to the Mountain Valley Conference Women's All-Conference bowling team yesterday. To be eligible for this honor, a bowler must finish in the top six overall in average in the conference. Abele finished fifth with an average of 186. She posted a single high game this year with a 246 and her high triple was a 662. "I'm so very proud of Sara for this accomplishment. Nobody has worked harder or longer for this acheivment and she is very deserving," stated Coach Tom Rathbun.

The HCCC swim team had a successful weekend at Regionals with Tim Manoogian and Kelcy Newman winning regional championships in the 100 yard breaststroke. "Our swimmers worked incredibly hard to get here and it sure did pay off," said Coach Vicky Brown. For more results...

The Intercollegiate Athletic Council hosted a Kids Night Out on February 14 from 6-9pm in the Physical Education building. Forty four children in grades kindergarten through sixth grade attended. Activities included basketball, kickball, whiffle ball, soccer, movies and more. HCCC coaches and athletes supervised and coordinated activities. A total of $130 was raised for the American Heart Association. “This was a great way for kids to have fun on Valentine’s Day, and for parents to have a few hours to enjoy the evening too,” said HCCC coach and event coordinator Amy Brelinsky. "
The response from parents was overwhelmingly positive."

Men's lacrosse coach Rich Dommer will be a guest speaker this weekend at the Canadian Indoor Lacrosse Association’s "Rack Attack" Convention. The four-day event is held at the Hagersville Indoor Lacrosse Arena on the Six Nations Indian Reservation in Hagersville, Ontario Canada. Dommer will address an audience of 500 plus lacrosse fans, players, coaches, professional players and private equipment vendors. His presentation will be on the Herkimer County Community College education, college preparation and developing your lacrosse game. Dommer is excited about this opportunity to promote HCCC, recruit potential student-athletes and promote the game of lacrosse. "I have attended many of these events, and now it’s my turn to give back to the game and promote the school that gives us all the support we need to be successful both in the classroom and on the athletic fields," said Dommer.

Herkimer County Community College baseball players Rex Brinkmeyer (Taylor, TX) and Keith Hendricks (Stuart, FL) were named preseason All-Americans by the National Junior College Athletic Association.
Brinkmeyer will be one of three pitchers returning from last season. “Pitching will be the key for Herkimer this season, and Rex will be one of a group of talented arms,” said coach Jason Rathbun.
Returning centerfielder Keith Hendricks, an All-American as a freshman last season, will be inserted into the closer’s role. Last season, Hendricks hit .434 with 12 doubles, four triples, two homeruns, 35 runs batted in and 15 stolen bases. Rathbun said “Keith will be the rock in the middle of the lineup.”

Johnson and Kucel Named to Green and Gold Club
Two Herkimer County Community College student-athletes were selected for the College’s Green and Gold Club for the month of January.
Senior Michelle Johnson, Richmondville, led the women’s basketball team to an 8-1 record during the month of January.She became the College’s all-time leading three-point shooter connecting on 109 three-point field goals in her career to date. She averaged 12 points per game in January and is currently ranked ninth nationally in three-point shooting percentage at 39 percent. Coach John Campagna said “Michelle is a very good defender and is great in transition from defense to offense.” Johnson is a graduate of Cobleskill-Richmond High School.

Freshman basketball player Kevin Kucel, Gloversville, scored 17 points and had seven assists and seven rebounds to lead the Generals to a 56-50 victory over SUNY Cobleskill. He leads the region in free throw percentage (87.4) and averages 12.5 points, 5.2 assists, and 48% for three-point field goals. Coach Matt Lee said “Kevin has helped lead the Generals to a # 3 ranking in the NJCAA national poll. He is a hard nose player who makes the players around him better.” Kucel was named Fulton County’s Athlete of the Year in his senior year at Gloversville High School.
HCCC’s Green and Gold Club honors an outstanding male and female athlete each month.

Former Generals Soccer Player Headed for the Atlantic Coast Conference
Herkimer County Community College men’s soccer alumnus Ivan Guarin ‘07 will play soccer for Boston College in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC). Guarin graduated from HCCC in December and is currently enrolled at Boston College on a scholarship, and is participating in the spring training season. “I am very excited for Ivan to play in one of the best soccer conferences in the country,” said men’s soccer coach Pepe Aragon. “It is a great advantage for Ivan to train with the team during the spring season.” A native of White Plains, NY, Guarin led the Generals to NJCAA national final four appearances in 2006 and 2007. He was named 2007 Region III Player of the Year and was a first team NSCAA All-American. Boston College won the ACC tournament last season, but was upset in the first round of the NCAA tournament by University of Massachusetts.
