Financial Aid Workshops
Herkimer County Community College is pleased to offer financial aid workshops for ALL college bound students and their parents. Financial aid counselors will explain the financial aid process and go through the newly formatted 2009-2010 FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid).

Winter Mini Session
Requirements to receive financial aid for the Winter Mini session:
- Students must be matriculated prior to the Winter Mini session
- Students must be registered for both Winter Mini and Spring semesters for at least six combined credit hours.
- Students must be making satisfactory academic progress at the end of the Fall 2008 semester.
- Students must have a 2008-2009 FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Financial Aid) on file prior to December 15, 2008.
Please be aware that all awards are determined based on your remaining 2008-2009 award eligibility. Winter Mini sessions are considered a part of the Spring semester for financial aid purposes. No state aid will be available for the Winter Mini session.
Students inquiring about financial aid eligibility for the Winter Mini session should email the Financial Aid Office after they have registered for both the Winter Mini and Spring semester.

- Name
- Date of Birth
- Number of credits registered for Winter-Mini session
- Number of credits registered for Spring semester.

Additional Loan Eligibility
The federal government recently increased the Unsubsidized Stafford loan limits by $2,000 for all undergraduate students. This increase will not be added to your 2008-2009 financial aid awards, unless you complete the attached Student Loan Request Form, and return it to the Financial Aid Office.
- Dependent undergraduate students now qualify for an additional unsubsidized loan up to $2,000.
- Independent undergraduate students and dependent students whose parents are unable to borrow a PLUS loan now qualify for an additional unsubsidized loan up to $6000.
- The aggregate unsubsidized loan amount for undergraduate dependent students has been increased to $31,000 (less what has been borrowed in subsidized loans.)
- The aggregate unsubsidized loan amount for undergraduate independent students has been increased to $57,500 (less what has been borrowed in subsidized loans.)
